Questions we are commonly asked about the Tersano Lotus Pro

It is sometimes the case with the Tersano Lotus Pro, as with any relatively new product, that questions always arise from those who are interested and want to know more. There are certain questions that we get asked regularly, which is why we thought we would respond by answering some of these in our blog.


How effective is the Tersano Lotus Pro?

Ozone systems have been on the market for many years and are extremely common, currently being used all over the world. However, these are usually what we would refer to as ‘gaseous ozone’ systems. The Tersano Lotus Pro is different and creates ‘Aqueous Ozone’ which is much safer. There is not a system on the market like it which is of an ‘Aqueous’ nature. This is why Tersano as a company have a number of highly protected patents.

We have always been very clear with our testing results and it is important to know that our testing is done below the minimum output of the system that our clients have onsite. This is the first important point.

Tersano’s SAO solution is able to kill up to 99.999% (5Log Kill) of pathogens. Every testing standard is different, some require you to pass at lower log kill rates, where others require you to test at higher log kill rates. This is why we state ‘up to 99.999%’ like every other hygiene product on the market.

We were very pleased to announce this week our testing results on the approved surrogate virus of SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19), the MHV-3 virus. You can see the results here.

Importantly, understanding how viruses and bacteria work (especially right now) is a key step in being able to combat them. Having the relevant information regarding contact times is essential. We have always provided this information to our clients.

When cleaning operatives are working, it is not always easy to understand which product to use for which task. We have always asked staff what they find the most difficult about their jobs. The usual responses include:

  • “We don’t always know which products kill what.”
  • “How long we should be leaving it?”
  • “Which products damage surfaces?”
  • “What are the actual effects of cleaning chemicals on us as staff in the workplace?”

Are there any health hazards?

 A lot of studies refer to ozone in a gaseous form, created by something like an ‘ozone generator’ which is being used in industries all over the globe right now. These give off high levels of concentrated ozone into the air. Whilst they are very useful in the reduction of pathogens, due to the high levels of ozone gas they let off, people cannot be in the room for a certain period of time.

This is not the case with the Lotus Pro and is a common misconception. Our solution binds ozone into the water safely. Crucially, the safe level for ozone off-gassing is no more than 0.1ppm. We have tests proving that our solution will give off a maximum of 0.07ppm, which is well below the recommended safe level for occupational exposure.

As a further note, Tersano have been operating the Lotus Pro system globally in thousands of facilities for just over 10 years and to date, they have not recorded a single Health & Safety incident to anyone using the solution.

The SAO solution is rated as SDS 0-0-0, as our data sheets show, and there is no need for PPE with our system, unlike with a gaseous ozone device or chemicals. However, it is completely up to the user should they wish to use them.

We would also like to note that to date, none of our clients using the Lotus Pro system (of which, one has been using the system for over 2 years) have encountered a single issue with staff, residents or guests, with most recording improvements in their personal respiratory health, reduction in coughs, skin conditions and asthma. We make no medical claims with our solution, this is simply the feedback we have received from customers compared to what they were previously using.


Aqueous Ozone vs Chlorine Bleach

 We often get asked about how Aqueous Ozone compares to chlorine bleach. One is a very traditional cleaning agent whilst our system takes a more modern approach. However, ozone has been used in food and water production for decades and is a proven method. Many studies suggest that chlorine has been removed by a lot of countries, replacing it instead with ozone or alternatives.

Ozone and chlorine bleach are both oxidisers. In other words, they react with oxygen to break down pathogens, which is why they are effective. The difference is that ozone is proven with lots studies (of which there is many), showing that it has a higher oxidisation rate than chlorine bleach – up to 50% more powerful in fact.


 Is there evidence showing it’s better than existing cleaning agents?

This statement is of course true in some respects and not in others. If SAO was capable of doing everything then it certainly would be better, however, there are certain jobs that it can’t do such as degrease or remove limescale as effectively as an acid based cleaner. This is always explained during our training and implementation process.

However, when you take into consideration that the Tersano SAO is completely toxin free, safe, green seal approved, eco-friendly and as highly effective as our own testing and numerous 3rd party testing has proven, then it is an alternative that should be seriously considered. Especially when you take into account the fact that it is one product for the majority of cleaning tasks that also powerfully sanitises, unlike many cleaning agents used in industry such as window cleaners, polishes, carpet cleaners, stainless steel cleaner and air fresheners, all of which contain harmful agents.

In addition to this, our system allows for facilities to effectively clean, whilst also saving them money.


Cleaning now more than ever should be a crucial part of any facilities management; however, this should also be as efficient and safe for the staff as possible whilst making financial sense for the company.
